Livia Montana, Joshua Salomon, Thomas Gaziano, Till Bärnighausen, Lisa Berkman and colleagues examined the relationship between depression and health and sociodemographic conditions among adults age 40 and older in Agincourt, South Africa. They found that wealth and education were not significantly linked; that diabetes, HIV, hypertension and obesity were weakly linked; and that older age was the strongest correlate to depressive symptoms.
