RAND’s Nicole Maestas, Kathleen Mullen, and David Powell find that, although the increasing fraction of Americans over the age of 65 is affecting America’s economy – with the GDP expected to slow by 1.8 percentage points over this and the next decades – older Americans are likely to vote against reforms that would ease the financial burden placed on younger generations by this population shift.
