Comparing biological age measures for two groups of non-obese middle-aged adults – one group that restricted calorie intake over two years an average of 12% and the other that did not – Daniel Belsky and colleagues found that the restricted calorie group had slower increases in these measures. Weight loss, the researchers say, was not a factor in the observed effect. Belsky says: “If we can intervene to slow the rate of biological aging, it may be possible to prevent or at least delay onset for many age-related diseases and disabilities.”
